1. Auftrag: Umbrella and ultrasound

1. Over hundred years ago, a monk PHRA IN THA from Borsang temple went to Thai - Myanma border for his meditation. One day, a Burmese brought him a hand made paper umbrella. When PHRA IN THA visited his village, he saw Burmese people making sa - paper umbrellas. Then, he wrote down all the procedures and brought them back to teach the Borsang people. Since then, the hand made umbrellas have been developed into wide varieties of styles. Nowadays, the Borsang umbrella becomes well known as a unique Chiang Mai heritage.

Task: construct a robotic umbrella with the classical principle of paper-fabric stretched over hinged ribs radiating from a central pole. Except of the paper, it will be built from LEGO parts only. It will have a sensor so that it will automatically open on sunshine, and close when dark. Document your construction, don't forget to add a picture of your team, unlisted YouTube video, program, and a description.

2. Ultrasonic waves are invisible, and we cannot hear them. In spite of that, dolphins, bats, and robots reliably navigate using ultrasound. Could you somehow convert the waves of ultrasonic sensor to a shape that can be perceived by our senses? For example, try to measure the width, and height of the signal transmitted from the sensor. Is it a narrow ray, a cone, or a sphere? Does the wave travel along straight lines, or does it get wider? Try putting obstacles in front of the wave and determine its shape. Afterwards, make a model, or a drawing. Try to make it in the proper dimensions. Examine the smallest / largest objects that could be detected with this kind of sensor.
